Parastomal Hernia

A parastomal hernia is an incisional hernia that develops at the site of a colostomy or ileostomy. For patients who have an “ostomy”, the abdominal wall can become weakened at that site, eventually allowing the herniation of abdominal contents into the abdominal wall. The hernia presents as a bulge immediately next to the ostomy and if left untreated, can become exceedingly large.
