Parastomal Hernia

A parastomal hernia is an incisional hernia that develops at the site of a colostomy or ileostomy. For patients who have an “ostomy”, the abdominal wall can become weakened at that site, eventually allowing the herniation of abdominal contents into the abdominal wall. The hernia presents as a bulge immediately next to the ostomy and if left untreated, can become exceedingly large.

If you have an ostomy and suspect that you may have a parastomal hernia, seek surgical consultation as quickly as possible. At the Winter Park Hernia Center, our goal is to provide the finest quality surgical care in an efficient, friendly atmosphere. Call today to schedule your appointment and find out why we set the bar in comprehensive hernia care.
